“The Grandma You Wish You Had”
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the challenges of caring for an infant? Do you lay awake at night worrying, anticipating the next feeding, concerned about whether you’ll be able to ‘do this’, wondering when you’ll sleep again? Are you having scary thoughts? Will your life ever return to ‘normal’? When will your body feel like your own again? How will you go back to work? Why doesn’t your partner understand?
I have over 30 years of experience assisting women through the early stages of motherhood with empathy and compassion. I talk with you simply and directly to clarify your thoughts and identify your feelings. Our work together will give you the tools and support you need to manage your stress, anxiety, fear, guilt or sadness through the physical and emotional transitions you’re experiencing.
You don’t need to work through these intense feelings on your own. I have helped hundreds of women in my practice. As we work together I will share tools and practices that will help you get back to yourself, think more clearly, and preserve your relationships.
I Can Help
My Story
I worked through these transitions myself. After my second child, I experienced Post Partum Depression and Post Partum Anxiety. I was irritable (yelling, heart pounding). Just ask my husband. I even broke out with shingles! I could not find a rhythm. It took me about a year to come back to myself with therapy and extra child care support. Going back to work and having regular hours, provided structure and some physical rest. I believe it helped me return to feeling like myself in some ways. That’s when I decided to devote my practice to helping women navigate the challenges of returning to work after childbirth.
The Grandma You Wish You Had
I have spent many years working with women through their childbearing experiences. On a personal level-these last several years I am seeing the up close and personal effects of post partum season with my own grown children as they become parents and return to work. I know they feel lucky that I see them, understand them and support them with my personal touch and professional knowledge. I am their mom and I can be the grandma you wish you had to share your challenges with.
Successful Outcomes
When J.S. gave birth to her first child she felt overwhelmed with worry. She refused visitors out of fear that her child would get sick. This caused her to feel lonely and isolated. She began to resent her husband’s ability to come and go as he usually did while she felt trapped. Her thoughts were jumbled and confused, made more so by her lack of sleep. At first she tried to tough it out alone. But as time went on she realized that she needed more support. She reached out to me and we began to talk. We challenged irrational thoughts. Slowly she began to allow visitors. She learned to communicate her feelings to her husband without blame or anger. Her loneliness and resentment dissipated allowing her to enjoy her baby and her husband and friends.
